Discovery and Litigation Support Paralegal
Cooper, Barton & Cooper LLP seeks a Discovery and Litigation Support Paralegal to join our busy and growing firm. The successful candidate will be able to provide quality service and assistance to our attorneys, staff, and clients. The ideal candidate is extremely detail-oriented, problem solver professional, takes ownership of work product, organized, diligent, reliable, able to work well on a team, and responsible in helping us to meet and exceed client expectations. Compensation commensurate with experience.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3+ years of experience as a paralegal required in civil litigation, employment litigation, and federal criminal defense practice areas specifically
- Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; Paralegal Certification Preferred
- Active commission as a Georgia Notary Public
- Highly Proficient at Drafting Pleadings in Federal and State Courts including Initial Discovery Requests and Responses, Motions for Continuance, & Entries of Appearance, as well as Conflict Letters, Leaves of Absence, Correspondence to Clients, and Correspondence to Opposing Counsel
- Strong reading and writing skills
- Experience and Working Knowledge of Federal Employment Statutes, including but not limited to the ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
- Experience and Working Knowledge of the Georgia Civil Practice Act and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, including Service of Process Requirements & Discovery Rules
- Experience and Working Knowledge of the United States Sentencing Guidelines and Federal Criminal Statutes
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Pacer, PeachCourt, CM/ECF, Adobe Acrobat, and Odyssey E-File, and other technology and software
- Working Knowledge and Experience using Westlaw Edge, Case Map, TABS, GSCCCA
- Proficiency in English; Proficiency in Spanish Highly Preferred
Duties
- Draft, transcribe, proofread, electronically-file (e-file) court documents, and prepare memorandum and related correspondences for our civil and criminal litigation attorneys
- Communicate, when necessary, with our Spanish speaking clientele
- Work with attorneys to develop legal arguments, motions, and other case filings
- Utilize existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases
- Review, analyze, summarize, and organize case files, documents, discovery, etc.
- Draft preliminary discovery requests in our civil litigation cases
- Index and Review Discovery in our civil litigation, employment discrimination, and federal criminal defense cases and work with attorneys to advance theories of case
- Facilitate the service of critical documents, including initial service of process and subpoenas
- Transcribe Dictation and Summarize Depositions Effectively
- Effectively communicate with Clients and Opposing Counsel at Attorneys’ Request
- Assist in preparing for Court Appearances, including creating effective Hearing Notebooks, Outlines, and Exhibits
